Creating Long Lasting Change
This week we kick off with my 6 week New You Summer Challenge. I have over 40 members participating in this challenge. I myself will be doing the challenge. I’ve hired a personal trainer to do my weight training with. Why? Because like you I also need a push. I can easily do it myself but I would get distracted easily by ‘work’ stuff that I wouldn’t put in my best effort. Having a personal trainer and being a personal trainer myself, gives me the opportunity to be the client, to get to experience what my clients experience. It’ll make me be a better trainer. I know lots of trainers who have trainers and I’ve also trained other trainers too. Surrounding yourself with likeminded people will help you to achieve your goals quicker.
So over the next 6 weeks my clients and myself will be on a journey of self discovery, creating new healthy habits and developing a stronger mindset. We will also be getting stronger, fitter and becoming the best version of ourselves.
How do you become the best version of yourself?
Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs and to upgrade and expand your identity.
You are not born with a set of beliefs. Every belief you have is learned and conditioned by your parents, your environment, your teachers, society and through experiences.
Your habits are how you embody your identity. For example when you make your bed every morning, you embody the identity of an organised person. The more you repeat a behaviour, the more you reinforce the identity
“Your habits shape your identity and your identity shapes your habits. It’s a two way street.”
You have the power to change your beliefs about yourself. Your identity is not set in stone. You have a choice in every moment. You can choose the identity you want to reinforce today with the habits you choose today.
You habits matter because they help you become the type of person you want to be. They are the channel through which you develop your deepest beliefs about yourself. You become your habits.
Decide on the type of person who you want to be.
Begin taking small steps to reinforce your desired behaviour.
If you want to be healthy ask yourself “What would a healthy person do”
Use this question as a guide.
Would a healthy person walk or catch a taxi?
Would a healthy person use the stairs or escalator?
Would a healthy person order salad or a burger?
If you act like a healthy person long enough eventually you’ll become that person.
“The most effective way to change your habits is to focus not on what you want to achieve, but on who you wish to become.”
If you want to learn more about habits and creating lasting change read a book by James Clear called ‘Atomic Habits’
I am currently reading this book as apart of my goal to read one book a month. And so far this has not disappointed me. It’s an easy read and very insightful. If you want to develop good habits and change your bad habits I highly recommend reading this book.
I’ll keep you updated in my next blog with my challenge and my personal trainer.
